A stunning vintage harpsichord by the late Orvin Fjare, who was a Congressman as well as a miniaturist. It features various woods, including exotic burl veneers. Each panel is trimmed with finely twisted metal wire, as are the legs. The two tier keyboard has individual black ebony keys.
The underside of the lid has a beautifully hand painted rural scene, unfortunately not signed by the artist. There is a hinged prop to hold the lid open, a hinged music stand and the strings are all in place. It stands perfectly level.
The piece is clearly signed underneath O. Fjare. There is also another mark that I can't decipher.
The only flaw that I see is that the burl lid is cupped. This doesn't show when the lid is open and one is looking at the painting but it does show if one is looking at the harpsichord from the front. I've only found one other of these online, which had a nautical painting, and it too had a cupped lid.
1:12 scale: 5 5/8 inches (14.3 cm) long, 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm) deep and approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) tall with the lid up.
