Lace maker's pillow stand & pillow, Carol Hardy, IGMA Fellow
$210.00
SKU: MAP13
A detailed and accurate wooden lacemaker's stand along with the lacemaker's pillow with lacemaking in progress. The pillow is authentically stuffed with straw. There is a paper pattern on the pillow from which the lace is being woven by a myriad of beaded lace bobbins. The design of the tiny bobbins is correct. The beads or spangles serve to add weight to the bobbin to hold the thread taut and also stop the bobbin from rolling around on the pillow and getting out of place.
The finished lace is carefully tucked into a little fabric pouch pinned to the back of the pillow and a leather pouch pinned to the left end of the pillow contains a spare bobbin. The detail is just wonderful!
The stand is clearly signed underneath C. Hardy #3, clearly the third of these that she made.
2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, 2 3/4 inches (7.0 cm) longest side, approximately 2 1/2 inches deep, approximately 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm) tall.
