{"product_id":"spirula-shell-rams-horn-squid","title":"Spirula shell (ram's horn squid)","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis is a fascinating specimen.  It is actually the internal buoyancy shell of the deep sea spirula squid, commonly known as the ram's horn squid due to the shape of its shell.  These squid normally live at depths down to 3,300' (1000 m) but come up to shallower water, 330' - 980' (100 - 300 m) at night.  Once the squid dies the shell can wash up on beaches.  I actually found this specimen on a black sand beach in New Zealand.
