Red garnet, January birthstone

A large red grossular garnet from Mexico.  Garnet comes in a huge variety of colours.  This crystal is not perfect but you can definitely see that it has a dodecahedral, twelve sided form, one of the natural shapes that garnets grow in.  The gem is discreetly glued to a custom wood base.  Garnets are a January birthstone.

13/16 inch (2.0 cm) wide, 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) deep and 5/8 inch (1.6 cm) tall.
