A polished slab of real stalactite edged with purple amethyst crystals, presenting a bottle of red wine and two "crystal" glasses just waiting to be filled. The bottle and glasses are resin and plastic, not glass.
The name "amethyst" comes from the ancient Greek word meaning "not intoxicate" - amethyst was believed to prevent drunkenness, so I thought that using it as drinks slab is particularly appropriate!
Amethyst is a form of quartz, with its colour coming from the presence of iron impurities that have then been irradiated naturally. It can lose colour if exposed to bright sunlight, and if it is heated enough it changes colour to resemble citrine (another colour form of quartz). Amethyst is a February birthstone.
1 3/8 inches (3.5 cm) wide, 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) deep and 1 1/8 inches (2.9 cm) tall.
