A polished stone disc with a goniatite fossil from Morocco. Goniatites are related to ammonites but pre-date them. The specimen is discreetly and permanently attached to a gold coloured stand.
Ammonites are extinct relatives of modern day nautiloids and squid. The largest known ammonite in the world would have been 8 1/2 feet (2.59 metres) across if it were complete.
1 5/16 inches (3.3 cm) wide, 3/8 inch (0.95 cm) deep and 1 3/16 inches (3.0 cm) tall.
